AFRICA’S SUPER FOOD FOR YOUR HAIR AND SKIN

What is Shea Butter?

Shea Butter is the rich moisturising oils pressed from the Shea tree nut, and is harvested across the sub-Sahelian savannah from Ghana in West to Uganda in East Africa.

In these countries, women have been making Shea Butter for over 1000 years as a nourishing moisturiser and sun block for their families’ hair and skin. To this day, they would never use anything else.

Where is it from?

We import Shea Butter directly from women’s cooperatives in Burkina Faso and Ghana. The Shea Butter we buy is tested certified by an accredited laboratory to ensure the highest quality of every shipment.

Buying directly from Womens’ cooperatives not only gets you the best price but empowers rural women in Africa. For every ton of Shea we import, 5 more women can feed, clothe and educate their families.

LEARN MORE ABOUT SHEA

What is in Shea Butter?

Shea Butter is 100% natural!

Shea nuts are harvested from wild Shea trees across the sub-Sahelian savannah from West Africa to Uganda in the east.

Rich Plant Oils

Shea butter is mostly Oleic and Stearic plant oils which come from the kernel of the Shea tree nut which are collected from wild trees across the sub-Sahelian savannah.

The Oleic oils are soft and easily absorbed by the skin. The Stearic oils are solid, like bees wax. They are referred to as non-saponifiable (non-soap making) because the molecule is too strong to break down into soap. Together they provide a rich and penetrating moisturiser for both hair and skin.

Antioxidant Vitamins

Shea butter is rich in the antioxidant vitamins A, E&F which nourish and repair skin and hair but also provide a level of natural sun protection.

Triterpenes

Triterpenes are anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial and antitumoral agents. Triterpenes occur in many plants, but they are highly concentrated in Shea Butter. Triterpenes combat the principal causes of aging on a cellular level.

Ghanaian women say about Shea,
“When you know better, you do better.”

What is Shea Butter good for?

Shea For Skin & Hair

Shea Butter is super rich and ideal for dry hair and skin. After you shower, warm up a pea sized amount in the palm of your hands and apply it to your face neck and any dry areas. Your skin will feel oily for a few minutes until the Shea Butter is completely absorbed, but then it will feel soft and waxy.

The good news is that Shea is non-allergenic and doesn’t clog your pores. Shea Butter scores a 0 out of 10 on the Comedogenic scale which measures how much a moisturiser or cosmetic blocks your pores, so it is great for people with black heads and acne.

Shea butter is widely used to moisturise and protect natural African hair from breakage. It can be applied to the scalp and to seal in moisture in dry hair. It also makes it easier to comb.

A little goes a long way!
